Fall 2008 Membership Application (PDF) -
Last day to apply for AGS is by October 2nd,
2008.*IMPORTANT*
You are required to complete
the total number of hours required by your membership type (i.e.
30
hrs for
Active Members and
15 hrs for Inactive Members).
You are required to sign-in and attend
at least 3 general
meetings throughout the semester. If you
cannot attend
a general meeting, you must make up the
missed
meeting by attending an AGS Office Hour
within ONE week of the missed meeting to obtain
pertinent information about the Society.
Failure to do
any of the above will result in the forfeiture
of your
Alpha Gamma Sigma membership and fees. There
are
no exceptions!
TEMPORARY MEMBERSHIP:
All life members of the California
Scholarship Federation and/or those who have
graduated with a minimum G.P.A. of 3.5 at
the high school level shall be invited to
become temporary members during their first
semester in community college and shall
have, upon payment of dues, all the
privileges of membership except
that of holding office.
INITIAL MEMBERSHIP:
An
application may attain initial membership if
the applicant has:
a) Completed 12 semester units in a maximum
of 3 semesters at any recognized institution
of higher education and has
b) A cumulative grade point average of 3.0
CONTINUING MEMBERSHIP:
An initial or temporary member may attain
continuing membership by achieving for the
previous semester not less than a 3.0 GPA in
courses recognized in college standing, or
maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or
better in course of recognized college
standings.
PERMANENT MEMBERSHIP:
A member may apply for permanent membership
by having maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5
or higher and by having been a member of AGS
for at least one term. Or a continuing
member who has maintained a cumulative GPA
of 3.25 or higher and has been member of AGS
for at least two terms may also apply. All
applicants have to have completed a minimum
of 60 semester units of recognized college
courses, with a minimum of 30 units
completed at a community college.
The permanent membership is an Honorary
Lifetime AGS title. You may achieve this
only after satisfying all requirements for
initial membership and completing a minimum
of 60 degree appropriate units. A minimum of
30 of the total 60 units must have been
completed at Mt. San Antonio College. A
permanent membership application must be
submitted to the Permanent membership
Advisor by the graduation petition deadline.
To apply you must meet the following:
1. Have a GPA of 3.25 or higher for 60
completed degree
appropriate units.
2. Have completed a minimum of two semesters
as an Alpha
Gamma Sigma Active or Inactive member.
Furthermore, after you select your
membership, it is further divided into two
levels of membership: Active and Inactive.
ACTIVE
membership requires a total of 30 hours of
community service of which 10 hours can be
from outside non-AGS sponsored events so
long as the organization is non-profit and
you are not an employee there. The fee for
Active membership is $15 per semester.
INACTIVE
membership requires a total of 15 hours of
community service of which 5 hours can be
from outside non-AGS sponsored events so
long as the organization is non-profit and
you are not an employee there. The fee for
Inactive membership is $25 per semester.
Inactive members cannot hold office.
General meetings
are held every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the
month from 3-4pm in Building 16 Room 1. All
members are required to attend at least 3
general meetings. If a member cannot make it
to the general meetings, they have up to one
week's time to make it up by going to an AGS
Office Hour located in our AGS office within
the Student Life Center Building 9C. AGS
office hours are posted on our website at
ags.mtsac.edu as well as on the door of
the office itself.
